Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 12 oz smoked sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 4 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 4 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon water for steaming broccoli
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water for thicker sauce

Equipment

  • Large cast-iron skillet or non-stick wok
  • Chef's knife
  • Cutting board
  • Tongs
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Paper towels for drying proteins

Method

  1. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to ensure a good sear.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced sausage and sear until golden brown. Remove sausage from the pan and set aside.
  3. Add the broccoli florets to the hot skillet. Add a splash of water, cover, and steam for 2-3 minutes until bright green and fork-tender. Remove broccoli and set aside with the sausage.
  4. Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil to the pan. Add the shrimp and sauté for 2 minutes, then stir in the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking until the shrimp are just opaque.
  5. Pour in the honey and soy sauce mixture. Let the sauce bubble and reduce for 1-2 minutes until it becomes a thick, sticky glaze.
  6. Return the sausage and broccoli to the skillet. Toss everything together to coat thoroughly in the glaze and heat through for 1 minute.
  7. Serve immediately over rice or enjoy on its own.

Notes

To ensure the best texture, do not overcrowd the pan when searing the shrimp. If the sauce is too thin, stir in a cornstarch slurry (1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water) during the final minute of cooking. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; reheat gently on the stovetop to maintain the sauce consistency.
